State of Disability Awareness in the Church 2025
Wednesday, April 23, 2025
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Forest Hill Church, Charis Room
7224 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, USA
In Mecklenburg County, approximately 8.8% of residents—over 90,000 individuals—live with some form of disability.
Statewide, about 13.7% of North Carolinians are affected by disabilities, with mobility impairments being the most prevalent.
Despite these significant numbers, many individuals and families with disabilities remain underrepresented and underserved within our churches.
The Disability Awareness Network, convened by FORCLT and Joni and Friends, invites pastors and ministry leaders to a special gathering designed to address this crucial need. If your church is not yet intentionally serving people with disabilities but has a heart to learn and grow in this area, this event is for you.
During this discussion-based event, you will:
- Gain awareness of the current realities faced by individuals and families impacted by disabilities.
- Learn practical steps and strategies that churches of all sizes can implement to begin serving this often-overlooked community.
- Be encouraged and reminded of the calling the Church has to welcome, engage, evangelize, and disciple people with disabilities.
Join us for this unique opportunity to expand your church's reach, learn best practices, and equip your congregation to become a more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive community for all.
